HE DRIVES UBER TO KILL SOME TIME

Thursday, 30 March 2017.

After leaving my car at the Perodua Plentong service center, I booked an Uber driver. It was a 1.3x surge. I dont mind. MSH accepted me, eta is 8minutes from Jalan Ayer Molek. I called him, he said he still got a rider to be dropped at Giant Plentong. No worries, I told him.

Minutes later, when I checked the Uber apps, instead of 4min left, he was driving farther and farther becoming 7min, then 8min. Aiyah. So I called him. He said, his mistake to misjudge that the junction got a u-turn one. So he needed to drive further up to get back to the Perodua Plentong. No worries, I told him again.

When I hopped in the Persona car, this uncle liked to talk too. I summarised here:

- on his 50s, retired from his vendor job to the gomen departments
- he travelled a lot inside the country only, ie Segamat, Melaka, Kuantan etc
- no commitment, according to him la, all his kids grown up already got jobs, so he driving Uber bcoz he was so bored staying at home doing nothing
- he drives Uber only for the last 6 months, no Grabcar
- he drives part time, as when and where he likes
- when asked about his income and experience, he likes to refer to his friends stories only
- we talked about to be imposed income tax
- he asked me whether I was an Uber driver, I denied it... OTL
- he told about his bad encounter with teksi drivers
- he never accepted jobs to Singapore bcoz all the riders wanted to use the Uber apps, no deal tepi longkang
- once, he passed the job to a teksi driver from Japanese guys going to Melaka and later to KLIA. The Japanese guys gave him a token of rm20 only. "That blue teksi driver so langsi never say thanks to me," he said sadly, "but it's okay."

So this uncle sent me to my house safely and later I gave him 5 star for nice conversation.

Other story. Recently there is an overwhelming news that the government would like to ask all the Uber & Grabcar drivers to pay income tax. Good lah, who asking you to show off all the income on the wassap or fb mah? The LHDN not a fool guy one, he can calculate and do simple mathematics. For example for the above daily income of rm247 x 30 days = rm7,410. But LHDN is not cruel and kejam too, so LHDN would calculate only half of the income, ie rm3500 x 12 months = RM42K. But if that's too much, LHDN gives discount somemore and drivers whose income more than rm30k only need to pay tax. Are you not happy teksisapu driver?

As for teksi drivers, they may not have to pay income taxes bcoz they never showed off their income on FB or wassap group. Furthermore, they need to pay at least rm55 daily to the syarikat cekik dara for the teksi licenses. Their meager income is not enough and not eligible for them to pay taxes. Instead, most of them (the teksi driver lah) would get the BR1M benefits as well. The syarikat should pay the taxes. But that's only my little theory. I close my case.

WHY UBER PENANG IS EXPENSIVE

Saturday, 18 March 2017.
After fetching my son from his College Mara in Alor Setar, I drove straight to the Pearl Island, Penang. Later at night, I wanted to book an Uber driver going to I Love You cafe to eat ikan bakar for dinner at Bukit Feringghi which is about 9.9km from the hotel I stayed.

9.05pm, I try on the Uber apps, showing me there are few nearby uber drivers around 3 minutes circle. I checked the fare which is in the range of rm14 - rm19 for a distance of 9.9km. Aiyah. "Why so expensive mah? I thought it's only 90sen per km?" I asked myself. Or maybe the rate is different from that in KL?

Anyway, due to the fatigue, I decided not to book an Uber. Instead, I drive my own car to the nearest foodcourt.

PERAWAN ATAU JANDA | UBER OR GRAB

Yesterday, my son asked me to book Uber from our house to the airport.

So today, 8.08am I posted a job to the whatsapp groups. When checked on the apps, Uber showed me the fare is in the range of RM31-41, while Grab fare is fixed RM53. So, as a rider, we should choose for the cheaper fare kann?

"Job Open. From Masai to Senai airport today at 5.05pm. Please pm uncle now."

2 drivers PM and contacted me.

The first driver, AZE (not his real name), asked about the job. I told him that I wanted to use Uber fare. He asked me, "uncle why not Grab fare?" I told him that Grab is mahal (expensive) mah! He laughed and laughed. He asked for a RM50 fare, and I told him to wait until noon if there is no driver available, I will contact him later.

Then minutes later, RZL (not is real name), pm me too. I told him about the Uber fare of RM41. He agreed. So I closed the job at 8.15am. But, he was asking whether I can give him extra tip. So, I dont mind and told him that I will give him a RM5 tip and make sure he sent my son to the departure hall door. He concurred on the RM45.

See my dear diary, riders will always want to have a cheaper fare and as a convenient as possible even want the driver to drop them off at the airplane doorstep! Fookyew lah Grab.

Now listening. Perawan atau Janda - cita citata.
